Course Description
Program Element Description
This course is designed to prepare pre-service special educators with background knowledge and critical understandings of culturally responsive practices in order to meet the needs of students at the intersection of culture, language, and disability needs. Students will examine the role culture plays in teaching and learning, develop strategies for culturally responsive collaboration with families and communities, and explore resources for implementing culturally responsive teaching practices as future special educators.

Why was this course your focus?
“I revised EDA 325, which is a SPED course focused on providing students with an understanding of diversity beyond the disability and what this looks like across all phases of teaching and learning as a special educator. Our course is open to not only SPED majors, but students across the college in social work, counseling, and general education (K-12, ESL, and literacy).”
