Organization Overview

The Pennsylvania Educator Diversity Consortium (PEDC) seeks to eliminate the demographic mismatch between educators and learners of color while ensuring that learners of every identity experience the benefits of a racially, ethnically, and linguistically diverse educator workforce. PEDC convenes and collaborates with invested partners to advance educator diversity and the development of culturally relevant and sustaining educators and systems in early childhood, K-12, postsecondary, and higher education.

Position Overview

To lead this important work in Southwest Pennsylvania (SW PA), PEDC seeks a dynamic, passionate, and entrepreneurial Coordinator. The Southwest Regional Coordinator is a newly-created position designed to facilitate the collective success of PEDC's regional efforts in SW PA. The Southwest Regional Coordinator will be part of a small team responsible for driving PEDC's work forward. Specifically, the Coordinator will drive internal and external functions in SW PA, including strategy, communications, community engagement, and data functions. The Coordinator should understand Southwest Pennsylvania's (SW PA) educational landscape. This position will report to the PEDC Co-Directors.

Responsibilities

The Southwest Regional Coordinator will support and facilitate PEDC's efforts in SW PA.

Collaborate and Co-Create with Invested and Community Partners

  • Build and maintain relationships with partners in SW PA, including developing and maintaining a list of partners, upcoming events, and following up as needed.

  • Coordinate research and other activities to align strategies and actions, including conducting individual outreach as needed.

  • Work with PEDC Co-Directors to update outreach strategy as new needs emerge and to coordinate with other related projects and coalitions to fully understand the current landscape of local and regional activities and integrate their work into workgroup processes.

Strategic Coherence

  • Maintain an understanding of current implementation challenges and develop comprehensive solutions to address them.

  • Develop, maintain, and monitor pending and potential legislative and policy priorities to support workgroup development of annual legislative agenda, policy, and funding recommendations.

  •  Collaborate with and serve as a thought partner to PEDC Co-Directors:

    • Provide support to partner organizations in aligning their work to the common agenda (e.g.,  identifying opportunities for program work to support specific goals);

    • Act as a neutral arbiter and help resolve workgroup disagreements in a programmatic direction. members, etc.; and

    • Coordinate advocacy and other supporting activities.

Communications

  • Communicate the objectives and common agenda of SW PA.

  • Facilitate ongoing communication between PEDC partners (e.g., host regular online/in-person meetings, coordinate regular email updates, newsletters, etc.) to ensure alignment of activities.

  • Plan, manage, and facilitate the logistics of monthly meetings and community events.

  • Create quarterly summary progress reports of SW PA regional activities.

  • Develop communication materials (e.g., summary documents, brochures, FAQs, etc.).

  • Develop web and social media strategy and familiarity using social networking tools.

  • Create and coordinate press strategy (e.g., drafting press releases, coordinating with media outlets, compiling and maintaining a list of press coverage, etc.).

Financial Management

  • Collaborate with PEDC Co-Directors to…

    • Identify potential funding sources and cultivate relationships with donors in SW PA

    • Work with invested partners to support collaborative grant applications

    • Coordinate SW PA grant reporting to funders as required

    • Track budgeted spending in SW PA

Data Collection, Analysis, and Reporting

  • Coordinate indicator refinement with workgroups, etc.

  • Work with PEDC Co-Directors to ensure all partners are aware of targets and indicators.

  • Collaborate with research partners and manage data collection and analysis.

 

Basic Qualifications

  • Effective working relationships with diverse communities in SW PA, including knowledge of leadership development programs, professional societies, affinity groups, and alumni associations.

  • Capacity to remain flexible, prioritize appropriately, and manage workflow. Comfortable with ambiguity and the ability to pivot between projects without missing a beat.

  • Ability to identify and quickly comprehend essential questions and conduct research independently.

  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills. Clear and concise writing and editing skills are critical to this role.

  • Technological proficiency, including advanced skills in MS Office, Google Drive, and other programs/software (e.g., Adobe Acrobat, Zoom, calendar and project management software, i.e., Asana, and other databases, including CRM systems).

Compensation

  • This is a part-time consultant role with an expectation of 25 hours per week, compensated at $40/hour.
